Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre (GHDT) is a professional contemporary dance company that performs in a wide variety of styles that combine modern dance, ballet, pointe, theatre and ethnic dance forms to create a unique style with a sense of drama. GHDT has created a large repertoire of more than 120 pieces that are rich in contrasts and appealing to a broad-based and eclectic audience. Our dance company is committed to creating dances dealing with relevant social, cultural, historical and spiritual issues. The company has used dance to speak to its audiences about human rights and dignity.
Gregory Hancock, GHDT’s multi-talented Artistic Director, has received numerous honors and awards for his work as a choreographer including Master Artist Fellowships from the Indiana Arts Commission, two Creative Renewal Fellowships from the Arts Council of Indianapolis and Lilly Endowment, Inc., and international fellowships from ArtsLink and the Citizen Exchange Council in New York.

The professional company produces four full-length concerts per season, which include World Premiere pieces as well as audience favorites from the company’s vast and diverse repertoire.
Our Dance Company
GHDT has toured to Europe and has appeared at the 11th International Baltic Ballet Festival in Riga, Latvia along with companies and soloists from Japan, Israel, Ukraine, Spain, The Netherlands, Latvia and Croatia. GHDT was also the primary touring company of this prestigious festival. The company has been critically acclaimed both locally and internationally.

Mr. Hancock has worked extensively with music and themes of India and has created a unique fusion of modern dance, classical dance of India and Bollywood style dance. The company has performed at numerous Indian events and has been embraced by the Indian community for its fresh take on Indian music and dance. The company has performed at the American Telugu Association National Convention at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey for an audience of over 14,000. The company is currently planning its first concert tour of India in the near future.
In addition to the vast and diverse collection of repertoire pieces, the company presents full-length contemporary ballets such as The Gypsy Vampires of Drakov, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, SUPERHERO: the story of a man called Jesus, Alice and her Bizarre Adventures in Wonderland and Romeo and Juliet at the Disco.
GHDT was established in 1998 as a professional company and established its home and daily rehearsal space in 2009 in Carmel, Indiana. GHDT is the only professional dance company in Indiana with a training academy. GHDT is a resident company at The Tarkington Theatre at The Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel, Indiana.
GHDT also provides numerous training and performance opportunities for youth, including G2, the pre-professional student ensemble of GHDT, an all-student contemporary version of The Nutcracker, an annual Academy Showcase, and intensive summer workshops featuring international faculty.
GHDT is supported by the City of Carmel, The Indiana Arts Commission through the Regional Arts Partners program, the Christel DeHaan Family Foundation and the Penrod Society.
