"SUPERHERO: the story of a man called Jesus" is truly one of Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre's masterpieces. This critically acclaimed, full-length modern ballet follows the last week of the life of Jesus as told through the perspective of Jesus and the women surrounding him, and his complicated relationship with Judas Iscariot. Set in "anytime" and "everyplace", this beautiful work portrays both large and small events in Jesus' last days, both of which are ultimately significant. SUPERHERO is a "whirl of energy... through color, light, movement, and sound" and is a timeless retelling of a story about a man who changed history.
Artistic Director, Gregory Hancock uses his world-class dancers, his award-winning choreography, and contemporary music to create a stunning work of emotion. The set design of Gregory Hancock utilizes texts from the Gospels written in Greek, Latin, Hebrew, Aramaic and English that submerges the audience into the story.
What better timing than during Holy Week to experience the passion of this story that is captured beautifully through the performances of the dancers of GHDT. SUPERHERO gives flight to the soul!

This spring, come and see for yourself as, once again, G2 presents classic excerpts from the professional repertoire.

A timeless tale of love and jealousy, Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" celebrates Victor Hugo's dark tale with contemporary flair. Traditional choral song sits amid contemporary French and English music for a rich blended score that punctuates the mixing of contemporary costuming with timeless peasant wraps. An every-changing cast reminiscent of the ancient Greek Chorus sets the scene with which Hugo's key characters are manipulated. Dancers transform from Parisians to peasants, to nuns and vicars of Notre Dame.
Featuring a large cast, prolific storyteller, Gregory Hancock uses poignant moments mixed with athletic artistry to capture the essence of Quasimodo - the malformed man with a soul of gold, shunned for his looks alone. Dazzled by the gypsy beauty Esmeralda, Quasimodo braves the world to befriend her. The many eyes of Notre Dame look on as their mournful tale plays out. The gypsy is hunted by the bell ringers' guardian Dom Claude Frollo, toyed with by the handsome but discredible Captain Phoebus, and warned repeatedly about merciless destiny by her own protector Clopin. In the end it is the scorn and jealousy of Phoebus' fiancée Fleur de Lys who seals Esmeralda's fate, and plunges those who love her into a cataclysmic spiral.
This June visit a younger, cruder Paris, before she was the City of Lights. Where her dark and narrow boulevards disguised the deformity of certain souls, and true beauty and heroism are found in the everyday man.
